Dancing in the Dark

"You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever." Ps. 33:11-12 NKJV

Early in my first marriage, my late husband, Tony and I lived in a small duplex in a Nashville subdivision. We had a tiny kitchen, and very little by way of furnishings for our apartment. We were trying to save for our first home, so we had been eating at home quite a bit.

Now, I must also tell you that Tony was a hopeless romantic... always writing poetry for me, bringing home flowers, and such. One particular night, during dinner, the moon was really shining brightly through the patio doors of our kitchen. Suddenly, Tony jumped up, turned off the kitchen light, grabbed my hand and pulled me close. He flipped on a small radio we had in the kitchen. And we began dancing in the middle of that tiny kitchen...to the light of the moon as it shone through the glass doors.

I am sure that I stepped on his toes at least once (I am a musician, not a dancer!) But we soon learned to dance together...

Sometimes, I think as believers, we have to learn to dance in the dark as well. God will nudge us in a particular direction, He'll grab our hearts, and suddenly we'll find ourselves up in the middle of the kitchen, dancing with Him... Sometimes, it means learning by dancing on top of His feet, as a small child would do when learning to dance for the first time with her Daddy. Other times, it means that we simply place our heads on his chest, listen to the rhythm of His heartbeat and slowly turn as He guides us. There will be times when sin will cause us to be out of step or we will most certainly step on His toes.... or He will step on ours!

Nevertheless, the dance is one of joyous celebration. He is singing over you, His princess, His beautiful bride! He is totally head over heels, crazy about you! And He desires to be your all in all!

His hand is reaching out to you... Will you join Him in the dance?
